Celebrating 20 Years of Training by RPMs for RPMs

Celebrating 20 Years of Training by RPMs for RPMs

Since 1990, EPA has supported training "by RPMs for RPMs" by hosting the Annual NARPM Training Program which features training courses, panel and information sessions, technical resources, keynote speakers, poster session, and resource area.

For 20 years, the annual training program has served as a national forum where RPMs discuss regional and national issues of concern, identifies ways that RPMs respond to issues, and is one of the mechanisms used to coordinate with EPA Headquarters to promote national consistency in the implementation of Superfund's remedial program. The Annual NARPM Training Program brings together in a single venue RPMs, EPA regional remedial support staff, senior managers, community involvement coordinators, regional attorneys, members of EPA's Environmental Response Team, representatives from other federal, state, tribal, and local environmental agencies to learn, network, and communicate cleanup strategies and solutions.

The benefits of bringing together staff from EPA's remedial program to train together on an annual basis in a single location are proven by the successes and accomplishments of the annual training program. Every year, the networking of RPMs with their regional counterparts, staff from EPA Headquarters, and local, state, tribal, and federal project managers ensures that information about policies, technologies, remedial strategies, and lessons learned is shared among EPA's remedial program.

As the Annual NARPM Training Program celebrates 20 years of training by RPMs for RPMs, the purpose of the annual training program remains focused on RPMs; keeping the training new, fresh, and relevant; and keeping mechanisms open for suggestions and improvements.
